The two main filter media (granular activated carbon and KDF 55) complement each other to provide excellent reduction of unpleasant tastes and odors that may remain in tap water. They complement each other in that they target different compounds in the organic (products with mysterious, complicated names) and inorganic (heavy metals, for example) domains. An Internet search can tell you which of the two media is suitable for a particular contaminant, but not the degree of effectiveness, because the reported effectiveness always refers to a system and conditions which are not those of your OVOPUR. Filter media do not treat all conditions, such as iron, nitrates, fluoride or arsenic.
